Overcoming Fear

Five days of Scripture to meet fear with God’s presence and strength.

  1. Do not fear

10Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

    Reflection

God promises presence and a steadying hand.

A guided prayer inspired by today's Scripture

Heavenly Father, thank you that I can come to you just as I am. Your grace is sufficient, and your power is made perfect in weakness. Would you renew my strength and meet me in the very place that feels weakest. I place this in your hands and choose to trust you with what I cannot control. In the name of Jesus, amen.

    Faithful action

Say ‘I am with you’ over one fear you face.

  2. Through the valley

1Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. 6Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Yahweh’s house forever.

A guided prayer inspired by today's Scripture

Heavenly Father, thank you that I can come to you just as I am. You draw near to the broken-hearted and promise comfort to those who mourn. Would you sit close to me in this sorrow, and let me feel that I do not grieve alone. I place this in your hands and choose to trust you with what I cannot control. In the name of Jesus, amen.

    Faithful action

Read Psalm 23 slowly, as your own prayer.

  3. A spirit of power and love

7For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

A guided prayer inspired by today's Scripture

Heavenly Father, thank you that I can come to you just as I am. Your word says you leave your peace with us, a peace the world cannot give. Would you quiet my anxious thoughts and steady me with your presence today. I place this in your hands and choose to trust you with what I cannot control. In the name of Jesus, amen.

    Faithful action

Turn one anxious thought into a sentence of trust.
